In our next webinar: “Networking: how to open the doors to opportunity”, we consciously reverse some of the conventional advice handed out to new entrepreneurs or professionals. One example of that is the Elevator Pitch, which all too often produces a synthetic, off-putting message.

We examine:

  • Some of the preparation that IS helpful
  • Tips on arrival at an event (social or personal)
  • How to introduce yourself
  • How to escape from situations in which you feel trapped
  • How to develop interesting conversations (and what NOT to do!)
  • How to lay a basis for staying in touch, and follow-up
 

ABOUT THE JOHN NILAND

John Niland

When John graduated in Philosophy, he found that his native Ireland did not have much demand for philosophers; supply outstripped demand. So, he built an IT business instead and learned many hard lessons from the University of Life.

Since the Millennium, he’s become well-known for his insightful and humorous presentations at hundreds of international conferences. His talks and workshops focus on practical ways to raise the value of services and products in a world that often seems hell-bent on devaluing them.

Then, in the years 2015-16, he got a personal lesson in self-worth. One after the other, he was hit by a series of personal losses (end of a relationship, project-failure, Brexit and its consequences, the death of my mother) and suddenly he was that person self-preoccupied with the “Who-the-hell-am-I” question. Though he might have intellectually understood the difference between conditional self-esteem and intrinsic self-worth, he found he was certainly not living it.

The Self-Worth Safari grew out of his own struggles and the subsequent discovery that he was not alone. It has turned into the adventure of a lifetime: the realisation that no matter what is happening around him, he can always be a friend to himself. Having piloted this with c. 120 people, we see the power of self-worth to transform careers, sales, confidence as well as a host of personal applications: from self-care to sense of purpose.

John’s core message is simple: when you grasp the vital distinction between self-worth and self- esteem, this is a game-changer at work and in life. You become more courageous in conversations. You bounce back quickly from setbacks. You do higher-value work and develop worthwhile partnerships. As a leader, you inspire others to do likewise
